Go Bears! F***king Hot Wearable Cal Satire

Our pal “King Tut” turned us on to this fun and funny t-shirt designed and manufactured locally the old fashioned way: hand-drawn and screen-printed in the artist’s studio. In fact, he gave us the shirt off his back! What a good boy. Artist Auvrey makes these and others and hangs out in San Francisco’s Castro Gayborhood. This one takes off on the UC Berkeley “Cal” mascot. Got the colors down, too. We like it…even though we are Stanford Dads. Hah! Go Bears!

Meantime, in Egypt…

The people want a civilian government. The military? Not so much. Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss? From the campuses of the University of California to the streets of Cairo, 2011 has been a year of teargas and blood. And the beat goes on. More photos from Tahrir Square here.

To protect and to serve: noble ideals. Is this what anyone is hoping for when they apply to the police academy? The police are no more elite than the students. Pawns against pawns: the new kings can afford to watch this like a play. The nearby city of Oakland, including its small businesses, takes the bulk of an assault intended for corporations well insulated from the occupations on the streets. For a statement from the Oakland Police Officers Association expressing their frustration with a ridiculous situation, click here. For updates from The Daily Californian, here.

Shirtless Quiddich at Cal

I happened upon a Quiddich practice at UC Berkeley last Sunday. Did you know they had a team? Many college campuses are now forming teams to play this increasingly popular sport, invented by author J.K. Rowling in her Harry Potter series.
This team may not fly on their broomsticks, but their semi-shirtless practice sure attracted plenty of spectators.
